HÉLÈNE MOOREN
Hélène Mooren was born in Sâo Paulo, Brazil. She spent her childhood in the Netherlands, before moving to France, where she currently lives. As soon as she arrived in the South of France, she was captivated by the power of its light. This revelation of light and color, so new to her, was to have a profound influence on her subsequent work.
She studied visual arts at the Université d’Aix-en-Provence and engraving at the Atelier Lacourière-Frelaut in Paris. In 1977, she obtained a D.N.S.E.P. with honors from the Ecole d’Art et d’Architecture de Marseille.
In 1978, she moved away from metal engraving and lithography to devote herself to painting: watercolor and acrylic.
From 1982 onwards, his work seduced galleries, notably Galerie Noella Gest in Saint Rémy de Provence, Galerie Gooijer G.F.A. in Amsterdam and Haarlem, Galerie Leolux in Utrecht and Eindhoven, Netherlands.
She met the writer Liliane Giraudon in Aix-en-Provence and created Les Etendoirs from her poems, which were exhibited at her readings at the Théâtre National de Chaillot in Paris in 1983 and at La Fête du Livre in Aix-en-Provence.
Publications in Revue Banana Split no.16 and Revue Co-incidences no.9.
This interest in combining painting and writing never ceased: group exhibitions Signes Symboles Ecritures at the Palais des Papes, Salle de Théologie in Avignon, Livres d’Artistes at Les Arcenaulx in Marseille and Biennale du Livre d’Artiste in Uzerche.
She moved to Paris in 1988. She expands her research with collages on paper and wood, as well as assemblages of wood and photographs.
