CORINNE MERCADIER
Lives between Paris and Bages, Languedoc, France
She is represented by Binome Gallery, Paris
It is the floating contact between reality and imagination that has shaped Corinne Mercadier’s world since the 1980s. She practices photography and drawing with permanent mobility from one to the other across time and themes: currently three series of drawings, “Le Voyage intérieur” (The Inner Journey), “Éternel retour”(Eternal return), and a new one, “Rêves” (Dreams), alongside the current photographic series “La nuit magnétique” (The Magnetic Night) which combines photographs of real spaces and photographs of paintings on glass. CM thus uses this technique with aura effects for the third time, this time in digital work and not with the Polaroid SX70 as previously.
Until 2019, Corinne Mercadier produced photographic works which give an important place to dance and architecture. She drew and wrote in work notebooks, used models, first family and friends, then dancers or actors. Natural light and existing sets are a constant, whether in desert areas for the “Solo” series in 2012 or on remarkable roofs like those of the Paris Observatory or Chambord Castle in 2016 for the series “Le ciel commence ici” (Here Begins The Sky). She makes the costumes and sculptures intended to be thrown during photoshoots.
She worked with analogic Leica and Polaroid SX70 until 2008, then turned to digital after exploring various so-called “poor” photographic practices.
