JEAN-LOUIS VILA

Born in 1948 in Elne, Jean-Louis Vila lives and works in Collioure.

Jean-Louis Vila was a teacher in La Seyne-sur-Mer and Marseille, and Art School Director in Perpignan. In his early days, his work was influenced by the Supports-Surfaces movement, with which he felt a close affinity. In this questioning of traditional pictorial expression, his work nevertheless remains nourished by “memory.” The abstract space of his painting is punctuated with symbols and references to his memories and experiences.

In a minimalist approach, Jean-Louis Vila always achieves, with great economy of resources, a connection between simple, evocative, and symbolic geometric figures.
